Music
Cindy Beitmen began her career singing opera in the Washington, D.C. area. After six years of teaching, singing, and conducting in Vienna, Austria, she moved to Seattle, where she began specializing in early music. Cindy received her Masters of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Washington, during which time she performed as soloist with the Seattle Chamber Singers, Broadway Symphony, Vancouver Early Music Festival, and the Early Music Society of the Islands in Victoria, B.C. Performance opportunities led her to New York City where she sang with Pomerium, the Virgin Consort, Symphony for the United Nations, Ensemble Fortuna based in Boston, and the British Ensemble Circa 1500. As a member of the New York Ensemble for Early Music, she toured throughout the U.S. in the medieval liturgical drama Herod and the Innocents and performed the Resurrection Play of Tours at the New York Cloisters. She taught voice and vocal diction at Northern Arizona University and currently directs the college choir and early music vocal ensemble at Mills College. In addition, she is the music director at St. Albert Priory in Oakland, director of the Contra Costa Chorale, and is founder and director of the Women's Antique Vocal Ensemble, which specializes in music of the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.

Louise Carslake has performed widely on the baroque flute and recorder in Holland, Ireland, Poland, New Zealand, the U.S., and across her native country of England.  She appears on 10 CDs with music from the 16th to late 18th-centuries, and is a member of Music's Re-creation, the Farallon Recorder Quartet, Magnificat, and Jubilate Baroque Orchestra. She teaches on many courses in early music across the U.S., and is co-director of the SFEMS Medieval-Renaissance Summer Workshop at Dominican University. Many Mills students enjoy the fascinating music from these earlier times, and in these ensembles they gain both a general knowledge of performance practices and specific instrumental and vocal skills.

Steed Cowart composer and conductor, has been a director of the Mills Contemporary Performance Ensemble (CPE) since 1986. During this time the ensemble has worked directly with many visiting composers including Meredith Monk, James Tenney, Lou Harrison, Christian Wolff, Cecil Taylor, Jose Maceda, and Terry Riley. CPE regularly performs new works by Mills student composers. Steed holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego where he was Bernard Rands' assistant with the new music ensemble SONOR. At UC, Santa Cruz he conducted Ensemble Nova, the faculty new music ensemble, and was director of April in Santa Cruz, a month-long new music festival. He has conducted many ad hoc ensembles in performances of new music, appeared as guest conductor with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and conducted the Club Foot Orchestra in performances and in accompanying silent movies.

Molly Holm has been performing in the Bay Area and abroad since 1976. She is a well-known soloist, vocal ensemble director, composer and arranger, working with a wide range of multi-cultural groups. Having graduated from Mills with a BA in Music, (specializing in jazz voice) and an MA in Composition, Molly studied composition with Terry Riley, Allaudin Mathieu, and Lou Harrison; and Indian Raga singing with the late Pandit Pran Nath.  Molly toured the U.S. and Italy in Riley's band, Khayal, during the early '90's, and spent seven years as a singer and "right  hand person" in Bobby McFerrin's a cappella ensemble, Voicestra.  The group toured throughout the U.S., Brazil, and Japan; recorded on McFerrin's CD, "Medicine Music" and appeared on numerous television programs, including Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show, Arsenio Hall, and NBC's The Today Show.  Later, Molly was the featured vocalist for Zakir Hussain's commissioned piece at the San Francisco Jazz Festival.  She is now completing her first CD as a solo artist and songwriter. C. K. Ladzekpo is a master performer, composer, choreographer, and teacher of African Music And Dance. He is a member of a famous family of African musicians and dancers who traditionally serve as lead drummers and composers among the Anlo-Ewe people of southeastern Ghana in West Africa. C. K. Ladzekpo has been a lead drummer and instructor with the Ghana National Dance Ensemble, the University of Ghana's Institute of African Studies, and the Arts Council of Ghana.

Daniel Schmidt received his BA in music from Westminister Choir College, Princeton, NJ and his MFA in composition and Javanese Music from California Institute of the Arts. He is a designer for the Paul Dresher Ensemble, was musical director of the Eugene Chamber Theater, and is an instrument builder who has received commissions from the Paul Dresher Ensemble, Boston and San Francisco Symphonies, the Exploratorium, and North Texas State and Sonoma State Universities. He also teaches at Aurora School in Oakland, CA.
