580 Split is an annual journal of arts and literature published by graduate students of the English Department at Mills College. This national literary journal includes innovative and risk-taking fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and art and is one of the few literary journals carried by the Oakland Public Library. 580 Split is also distributed in well-known Bay Area bookstores.

Call for submissions
580 Split is seeking submissions for its 16th issue. Submissions will be accepted from September 1 through October 31, 2013. We welcome exemplary works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art. Experimental work, international writers, and marginalized perspectives are highly encouraged.
The theme for the next issue is Mischief. What we create as artists and writers is not always nice and orderly. But there is value in disregarding traditional notions of what is good to create something real. Give us your brats, your troublemakers and your anti-heroes, and we will give back an issue to be proud of.
We use Submittable to manage all submissions. You will sign up for free during your first submission via our online submission form. Please do not send any submissions via mail or email: they will not be considered. View the complete submission guidelines or submit your work to us here.
