Graduate Assistantship in Narrative Writing and Community Engagement

We are fully committed to ensuring that a Mills education is within reach for those who have the desire and the qualifications to attend. Our costs are competitive with other colleges of our caliber, and we provide
access to a range of financial aid, including scholarships and loans. Some are funded by Mills directly, and others are state and federal programs. In 2010–11, Mills awarded $4.7 million in aid to 80 percent of the graduate student body.
To learn more about applying for financial aid at Mills and access downloadable forms and applications, visit the Mills graduate financial aid page. For tuition, fee, and payment information, visit graduate tuition and fees.
English Department Scholarships and Assistantships
Need-Based Scholarships: To be considered for the need-based scholarships, applicants to the English
Department's graduate programs must submit a FAFSA by February 1.
Graduate Assistantships: Assistantship positions are available in the Composition Program and
Writing Center, the Book Art Program, undergraduate creative writing and literature classrooms, the Place for Writers,
and 580 Split, our graduate student-edited literary magazine. Many of these programs will have open positions for
students entering the program in fall 2012. Assistantships are awarded in addition to any need-based scholarships
you might receive, and carry an award of $6,000 for the year, and require 12 hours/week of work during the semester.
All applicants to the graduate programs at Mills College are invited to submit applications for as many graduate English
assistantship positions as they are interested in and qualified for, although students can only be awarded one position
in a given academic year. Assistantship applications are accepted online, and you can find full instructions and
descriptions here: mills.slideroom.com (For "Program", select English Department Graduate Assistantships.)
Applications for fall 2012 assistantship positions are due by December 15.
