Mills Math Professor Stankova's Berkeley Math Circle Inspires a Love of Mathematics
If one Mills professor has her way, doing mathematics will be as popular among middle and high school students as being on a football team. Zvezdelina Stankova, associate professor of mathematics at Mills College, was featured in Science News Online in an article entitled “Math Circles Inspire Students” by Julie J. Rehmeyer. Published the week of March 31, 2007, the article highlights Stankova’s Berkeley Math Circle, a weekly gathering designed to expose talented students to what she calls “world-class mathematics.”

Mills College Math Professor Stankova's Mentors National Spelling Bee Winner
Zvezdelina Stankova, associate professor of mathematics at Mills College, knew 13 year-old Evan O’Dorney was destined to win the Scripps 2007 National Spelling Bee last month. Throughout the past year, the home-schooled 8th grader from Danville, CA attended Stankova’s weekly Berkeley Math Circle, and his unusual intelligence drew her attention.

The Art of Mental Calculation, a guest lecture by Arthur Benjamin, Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College, will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 2:30–3:30 pm in the GSB Gathering Room. Dr. Benjamin has presented his mixture of math and magic to audiences all over the world, and has appeared on numerous television programs, including CNN, The Today Show, and The Colbert Report.
