wall/object: architectual views (detail, view#3), R-print, 20”x 24”, 2000

Daniel Barber

For the MFA show, I requested and was given a wall that is a freestanding object in the gallery space, along with some neighboring wall space. I have photographed the wall in two different conceptual and experiential contexts, and will hang these photographs next to the wall/object. I have also made a series of photographs of/on the floor. This work has two objectives: to offer more information as to the physical and contextual conditions of the space and by extension the museum and other art exhibition spaces; to provide a tangible example of the difference between representation and reality.
