A journey to places
unknown but seen...
In a series of paintings a sole traveler is on the an ongoing journey
in a
place that could be anywhere, heading to places unknown. A move from Iceland
to the unknown, unexplored has provoked a series of big scale drawings,
each 9x12 feet. My tools are paper and charcoal. As an explorer on an
expedition I am investigating a place. It appeared from darkness as light
hit it. The horizon is uncertain and it is far away in time
and distance. There are different points of departure and arrival. I started
with the widest paper I could get, drawing with the biggest chunks of
charcoal possible. Every stroke on the paper matters, as the dust of the
charcoal sprinkles down it creates a movement, a distance, a place though
I never find the paper wide enough.
