Peer Tutoring

Our mission is to promote student success at Mills College through active learning and motivation. This semester we will provide free tutoring for all undergraduates in a number of subjects (to be expanded in the future) which will focus on the mastery of material while encouraging creativity and independent thinking.

Appointments

We have two types of tutoring available: open hours and scheduled appointments. Scheduled ppointments can be made up to three weeks in advance but no less than 24 hours before the appointment.
Get the most out of your appointment

Open Hours
Open hours for the various subjects are held throughout the week and no appointment is necessary. These hours are posted on the doors of the Learning Resources Center (CPM 119 and 120) and at the Peer Tutoring Appointments calendar. The amount of time available will depend on student need. If there are other students waiting, the tutor will spend 15 minutes with students in the order that they arrive until their tutoring hours are completed. If there are no other students waiting, the tutor may meet with the student for a maximum of one hour or until another student arrives for services.

Appointments
Scheduled appointments are one-on-one activities available in 15 minute segments to a maximum of one hour. Please see the Peer Tutoring Appointments calendar for available appointment times. Scheduled appointments are made by filling out an appointment request form. You will receive an email regarding your appointment within two business days.

Each student is eligible for up to 3 hours of tutoring per subject per week. However, after each appointment the student will be asked to fill in an evaluation form before attending a second appointment.

Evaluations

In order that we may provide you with high quality service, we ask that you take a few minutes to complete an evaluation form after every appointment.  The information you provide will be used to recognize outstanding tutors and to aid us in identifying areas needing improvement.
