Shira Zucker: Asthma Epidemic
Doctors are calling asthma an epidemic in West Oakland, and say itıs hitting children particularly hard. A recent study by the Pacific Institute found that children from West Oakland are seven times more likely to be
hospitalized for asthma than kids from other parts of Oakland. Why are asthma rates so high here, and whatıs being done to reduce them? Reporter Shira Zucker spoke with members of the West Oakland Asthma Coalition to find out what residents are doing to protect themselves against asthma attacks, and what is causing the problem. |
