What is TRiO?
The Federal TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes six outreach and support programs targeted to serve and assist low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
On the Mills College campus, TRiO Programs prepares students to be academically and emotionally successful throughout their high school careers. Our ultimate goal is to see our students graduate from college. To that end, we offer a variety of services that support our program participants as they complete high school and make the transition to college. These services include the following:
• academic support/tutoring
• counseling
• mentoring
• college tours/visits from college representatives
• college advising/admissions assistance
• financial aid information and assistance
• locating/applying for scholarships
• educational field trips
• diverse cultural activities (visits to museums, plays, restaurants, etc.)
• trips to other Upward Bound programs
• career advising
• other preparation and services as needed
