The Mills Repertory Dance Company proudly presents

shift

November 21-22, 2013 at Lisser Theater, Mills College
November 23, 2013 at Studio B, ODC Dance Commons, San Francisco

Four peoplePresenting an evening that questions society’s image of the dancing body and examines the changing relationships with some of the many structures around us, shift features premieres and revivals by Mills faculty members Sonya Delwaide, Holley Farmer,
Yukie Fujimoto, and Sheldon Smith.  

Two international guest choreographers include Wanjiru Kamuyu of WKcollective from Kenya and Mills alumna Peiling Kao '10 from Taiwan. Kamuyu explores the Western patriarchal standards of beauty in Spiral, while Kao presents Migration, a piece inspired by patterns of bird migration. 

shift includes special performances with AXIS Dance Company in Delwaide’s reconception of her Suite sans Suite, a work originally created for the AXIS company in 2001. Also on the bill is the world premiere film 2 Solos by internationally renowned filmmaker Elliot Caplan, former filmmaker-in-residence with the Merce Cunningham Two peopleDance Company of 20 years. Choreography for the film is by Holley Farmer. 

shift runs Thursday, November 21st at 8 pm and Friday, November 22nd at 1 pm and 8 pm in the Lisser Theater at Mills College, 5000 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA.
On November 23rd the company will perform at 8 pm in Studio B of the ODC Dance Commons, 351 Shotwell St., San Francisco, CA. (NOTE: AXIS Dance Company will not be performing for the Friday matinee.)

Tickets are $15 general, $12 for students and seniors with a valid ID. Mills College campus shows are free to the Mills community with a valid ID. Admission for ODC/San Francisco performance is $18 general, $15 students/seniors. Tickets are available
at the door for all performances or in advance at odcdance.org for the November 23rd performance.
