Womanist Journal

Founded in 1992, The Womanist, A Women of Color Journal is an annual publication featuring prose, poetry and artwork by students, alumnae, faculty, and staff of color. The publication is compiled and edited by a group of Mills students. The Womanist provides an opportunity for women of color at Mills to critically and creatively share stories of celebration and resistance. The Womanist staff assist self identified women of color in refining their skills in organizing, writing, editing and graphic design.

The deadline for submissions for the 2013 annual publication of The Womanist is December 19, 2012.

The Womanist welcomes submissions with the following guidelines:

Writing Submission Guidelines

• Provide the title of your piece.
• Provide a one-paragraph author biography.
• Send as a .doc document.
• No more than 1000 words.
• For prose: one space between sentences, no space between paragraphs.
• Please carefully revise your work before submitting it, and please be receptive to editorial feedback.

Visual Art Guidelines

• Provide a title for your piece.
• Provide a one-paragraph artist biography.
• Submit images as a .jpg file.
• Please note your visual art may be published in grayscale or black and white.
