Latin American Studies

The Latin American Studies Program offers students a variety of courses on the peoples, cultures, literature, music, history, politics, and geography of Latin America and the Caribbean. It brings together disciplines that span the social sciences and the humanities, and also touches the fine arts, in a cohesive plan of study. The program provides students with a broad understanding of this changing region.

The major offers a well-rounded introduction to Latin American culture, history, and politics along with providing students with Spanish speaking skills. The major combines a core of common courses dealing with Latin America and US Latinos with a field of concentration of the student's choosing and a closely supervised senior thesis. The minor gives an overview of culture, literature, history, and politics, while allowing the student to emphasize the aspect of Latin American studies most relevant to her needs and interests.
