Submissions to The Pond

When submitting pieces to The Pond for consideration, there are a few basic guidelines to consider. We will follow these guidelines in selecting which pieces are added to the playlist.

Who can submit:

• We can only consider compositions from the Mills community—students, faculty, staff, and artists-in-residence past and present.
• The works need not have been recorded or composed while at Mills. We welcome work created before, during, and after artists' time at Mills.
• We can only accept original compositions. All works reflecting the artists' creative intent are welcome.

The recordings:

• We accept up to three recordings per submission.
• We accept recordings in mp3 format only.
• Please note, all submissions will be streamed at a rate of 128 kbit/s.
• The Pond repertory represents the Mills quality standard of recording and composition. We will consider recording levels, recording clarity (where applicable), and whether the recording represents the intent of the piece.

How to submit:

• Submissions may be delivered to The Pond as a digital download via thepond@mills.edu or delivered to the Music Department office on an mp3 CD.
• Submissions should be accompanied by:
  • Artist's name and contact information
  • Title of each work
  • A brief, 3 sentence, description of the work (optional)
  • A signed Pond License Agreement

Important: Please read the license agreement ("license") carefully before submitting work to The Pond. By submitting work, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this license. If you do not agree to the terms of this license, do not submit work.

The Pond license agreement is not considered "active" until The Pond has received a signed copy of the agreement. The Pond signatory will then sign the agreement and keep it on file. We will send you a digital copy via email of the signed contract for your records. Additionally, you may pick up a copy from The Pond office during our office hours.

The Pond is a student organization and therefore cannot afford to pay royalties for registered works. Due to increasingly stringent copyright laws for digital streaming, we require a non-exclusive license from copyright owners for compositions and recordings.  If, for any reason, the copyright owner transfers ownership (e.g., a record label), or changes their licensing agreements in any way that affects a work submitted to The Pond, remember to notify The Pond immediately so that we may remove your work from circulation.
