Health Insurance After Graduation

For studentsgraduating or otherwise leaving the College, it is important to plan ahead for continuing health insurance coverage. Kaiser is offering graduating students currently enrolled in Kaiser the opportunity to enroll into two of their Plans without the need and use of a Certificate of Group Health Plan Coverage. The two Plans will be guaranteed issue (no need to undergo a medical review). These plans are only available to students who will remain in northern California after graduation. Students moving to other regions will need to apply for an individual plan and undergo medical review.

For students completing degree requirements in December 2011, the last day of Kaiser coverage is January 14, 2012. For students completing degree requirments in May 2012, the last day of Kaiser coverage is August 14, 2012.

PSW Benefit Resources, the broker for the Mills College Student Health Plan, can provide assistance with selecting and applying for an individual health insurance plan. There is no fee for using these services.

We recommend calling (510-430-2260) or emailing (health@mills.edu) the office of the Director of Wellness and Community Outreach to obtain a Certificate of Group Health Plan Coverage as proof of continuous insurance coverage prior to departure from Mills. This may help avoid being subject to pre-existing condition exclusions when signing up for a new health insurance plan.

Coverage Options:

Mills students currently covered through the Kaiser Student Health Plan may convert current coverage to one of two individual Conversion Plans. There is no medical review and these are guaranteed issue. However, a less expensive option is available from the Kaiser Permanente Individual and Family plan which requires medical review.
