Commencement: Checklist 

November

November 2
Undergraduate Application for Graduation due.

Petition for Candidacy for Graduate candidates is due.

November 26
Master's and doctoral theses for degrees to be conferred January 2007 due in the Office of Graduate Studies by 4:00 pm.

November 30
RSVP deadline for New Alumnae Winter Reception for students completing course work in January 2008.

December

December 7
5:30 pm New Alumnae Winter Celebration. Art Museum.

Official transcripts must be received at the M Center if you have transfer credit that has not been reported or evaluated since your admission to Mills. This does not apply to cross-registration courses; however, cross-registering in your final semester will cause a delay in the posting of your degree, and, in the case of students graduating in the spring, the receipt of your diploma

Student accounts must be paid in full for students graduating in January 2008.

A list of all students graduating in the fall will be posted in the M Center.

December 10
Submit all work to instructors for removal of “incomplete” or “in progress” grades.

December 19
12:00 pm Residence Halls close.

12:00 pm Computing labs close.

5:00 pm Students graduating in January must return all library materials and pay outstanding library charges.

January graduates living in the Courtyard Townhouses, Ross House, Larsen House or Prospect Hill must vacate their residences by 12:00 pm.

December 31
January graduates living in the Underwood Apartments must vacate their residences by 12:00 pm.

January 2
This is your graduation date if all requirements are fulfilled at the end of Fall 2007 semester. Your degree will be "posted" no later than February 15.

February

Order personalized graduation announcements and thank you cards from www.jostens.com.

Early March
A list of all candidates eligible for Commencement will be posted in the M Center.

March
Informational packets, including the Senior Survey and Commencement "Reply Card", will be mailed to all degree candidates.

March 31
First day to reserve residence hall guest rooms.

April

Senior and graduate speech submission due. Date TBD.

Purchase your academic regalia from the Mills College Bookstore. Don't wait until the last minute. 

The finalists for the undergraduate student speaker will be contacted to give their speech . All seniors in attendance for the speeches will be able to vote to select the undergraduate speaker.

April 1
First day to reserve an on-campus after-Commencement party location. Only outdoor locations are available.  

April 9
Nominations and self-nominations for the Graduate Speaker at Commencement 2008 are due.  Submit your proposal to provost@mills.edu, or drop off your submission at the Office of the Provost, Mills Hall, Room 200.

April 14
Final date to return the "Reply Card" for Commencement seating tickets.

April 25
Master’s and Doctoral Degree Theses for degrees to be conferred May 2008 due the Office of the Provost and Dean of the Faculty.

If you haven’t already done so, purchase academic regalia at the Mills College Bookstore. Purchase early in the month to avoid delays!

May 1
Deadline for making arrangements for disabled guests for Commencement. Contact Emily Tallman in theCollege Events Office, Sage Hall 147, 510.430.3230, email: etallman@mills.edu .

May 5
Students graduating in spring 2008 must clear their student account balance by 4:00 pm to be eligible to receive their diploma at the Commencement ceremony.

May 7
Submit all work to instructors for removal of “incomplete” or “in progress” grades.

May 15
5:00 pm Students graduating in May must return all library materials and pay outstanding library charges.

May 16
9:00 am Continental breakfast for all graduating students who participate in Commencement rehearsal - Rothwell Center Student Union.

10:00 am Mandatory Commencement rehearsal—Lisser Hall.

5:30 pm Baccalaureate—Chapel

May 17
This is your graduation date if all requirements are fulfilled at the end of Spring 2008 semester. Your degree will be "posted" no later than July 15.

9:00 am Candidates line up to march—Mills Oval

9:45 am Commencement Ceremony—Toyon Meadow

12:30 pm (start time approximate)–1:00 pm Strawberry and Champagne Commencement Reception—Art Museum Meadow

Pick up your diploma from the table located in front of Warren Olney Residence Hall after the Commencement ceremony and before 2:00 pm.

May 18
12:00 pm Computing labs close.

12:00 pm Residence Halls close. All students must vacate at this time.
