Commencement: Checklist 

November

November 27
5:30 pm Winter Celebration for New Alumnae, Student Union. For all students graduating in January 2013.

November 28
Master's theses and doctoral dissertations for degrees to be conferred January 2013 (fall 2012) are due in the library.

November 28 - December 13
Students who received a Perkins Loan and are completing degree requirments in the fall should come to the M Center to complete required forms that include information on loan deferment and loan repayment or you may complete it at the Financial Counseling website.

Students who received a Mills College Loan and are completing degree requirments in the fall should come to the M Center to complete an exit packet, which includes forms and information on loan deferment and loan repayment.

December

December 3
Last day to file graduation applications for undergraduate degrees to be conferred May (spring 2013) or September (summer 2013.)

Petition for candidacy due for master's or doctoral degrees to be conferred May 2013.

Students completing degree requirements in the fall semester and who received a Federal Stafford or Federal Graduate PLUS loan, should complete the exit loan requirements online at www.nslds.ed.gov

December 7
Students graduating in January, who have transfer credits from a previous semester that have not been reported or evaluated since their admission to Mills, must ensure that official transcripts are received at the M Center.

December 13
Students who completed their degree requirements in fall 2013 must have their student account balance paid in full.

December 18
For students completing degree requirements in the fall, all library material is due back at the Library.

December 19
11:30 am Final meal at Founders Commons for students living in the residence halls.

12:00 pm Residence Halls close.

12:00 pm Computing labs close. Students completing degree requirments in the fall need to save their data from the campus file servers (i.e. MyFiles) by this time.

December 22
Students completing degree requirements in the fall and living in the Underwood Apartments, Courtyard Townhouses, Ross House, Larsen House, or Prospect Hill must vacate their residences by 12:00 pm.

December 24
Students completing degree requirements in the fall and living on campus must have storage containers picked up by Delivery Companies before 5:00 pm.

January

January 2
Official graduation date for students completing degree requirements in the fall.

February

February 1
Students graduating in May, who have transfer credits from a previous semester that have not been reported or evaluated since their admission to Mills, must ensure that official transcripts are received at the M Center.

February 15
If all requirements are fulfilled at the end of the Fall semester, the degree will be recorded no later than February 15 with the graduation date of January 2.

March 13
Transitions
11:30 am - 1:00 pm in Rothwell Center, Student Union. If you have questions about anything involving graduating from Mills, they either can be answered at this event or you'll find out who to contact for further information. Both graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to attend.

March 31
Deadline to order academic regalia online. Order from www.herffjones.com/college/mills.

April

April 1
First day to reserve an on-campus after-Commencement party location. Only outdoor locations are available. 

April 4
Seniors interested in giving the undergraduate speech at Commencement should send the text of their speech, which should be no longer than three minutes, to lengelken@mills.edu. The speech must be typed, double-spaced, in Word format, and include name, student ID, degree program, and  telephone number.

April 15
Nominations and self-nominations for the Graduate Speaker at Commencement 2013 are due.  The speech, which should be no longer than three minutes, must be typed, double-spaced, in Word format, and include name, student ID, degree program, and  telephone number.Submit the speech proposal to provost@mills.edu.

April 19

April 30 - May 16

May 1 - 17
Academic regalia ordered online is available for pick up from the Mills College Bookstore.

Students who did not orgder regalia online may purchase academic regalia from the Mills College Bookstore.

May 3
Deadline for making arrangements for disabled guests for Commencement. Contact Katelyn Ricks in the College Events Office via email events@mills.edu.  Please include your name, contact information, type of disability, and number of guests who require special arrangements. Special arrangements are not confirmed until she has responded to your request.

May 17
12:00 pm Rehearsal Lunch for all graduating students who participate in Commencement rehearsal - Rothwell Center Student Union.

1:30 pm Mandatory College Senior Survey must be completed by seniors - Lisser Theatre.

2:00 pm Mandatory Commencement rehearsal—Lisser Theatre.

4:30 pm Baccalaureate—Chapel

May 18
This is your graduation date if all requirements are fulfilled at the end of Spring 2013 semester. Your degree will be recorded no later than July 15.

9:00 am Candidates line up to march—Mills Oval

9:45 am Commencement Ceremony—Holmgren Meadow

12:30 pm (start time approximate)–1:30 pm Champagne & Strawberry Reception—Art Museum Meadow

May 19
10:30 am Final meal in Founders for students graduating in May 2013.

May 20
Storage unit containers must be picked up by company no later than 5:00 pm. No units may be picked up on Saturday, May 18!
