Commencement: Expiration of Mills Computing Accounts

Whether you graduate in January 2012 or May 2012, student-related services will remain available through Commencement to facilitate Commencement-related and personal communications; afterwards you will have email privileges for one month as a guest of the college. Moreover, the Portal will continue to be open to you. If you are planning to return to Mills in a new program in the fall, student-related services will start again in time for the next semester.

Vacation Messages

If you would like to notify those individuals and groups that send you messages that you have a new address, we offer an "out-of-office" message service that sends courtesy reminders to those that send you a message. Instructions for setting it up are here: Setting up your Out-of-Office Message.

Email Forwarding

If you would like to start reading your Mills mail at another account for the duration of your Mills account's existence, log into the Portal. At the top of the “Home” page, click the link to “add/update email in myMILLS.” After adding your email address, mark it as “preferred.” (Please note that forwarding will cease with your account's deactivation.)

Preserving Data

If you wish to preserve information from campus file servers (i.e. MyFiles) onto diskettes, memory sticks, or CDs using Mills computing facilities, you need to do so before the student computing labs are closed. Labs are closed on the same day and time that traditional residence halls are closed for graduating students (Wednesday, December 14, 12:00 pm and Sunday, May 13, 12:00 pm).

Alumnae Email

Mills College offers Alumnae email service to its graduates.  To access your Alumnae mail, log into the Portal and click the "Go to Alumnae Email" link. This service provides continuity to Mills graduates and allows them to retain a connection to the College for years to come. Your Alumnae email account will be automatically created for you a semester before your planned graduation date.

Students should note that their current Mills email accounts will remain active for 30 days after graduation. After that period, their accounts will expire, but their existing Mills mail will be migrated to the new Alumnae email service.

For additional information about the campus computing policies, please see the Computing Agreement.
