Welcome to Family Weekend 2012!

When you first arrive on campus, please register at the locations and times noted below. At registration, we will provide you with a folder that includes program updates, a campus map, and your name badge. The name badge will serve as your entry pass to all events listed in the program below, unless otherwise noted.

Your name badge also allows you access to Mills athletic facilities. Please bring appropriate clothing and equipment if you wish to participate in our Tennis Festival or take advantage of our swimming pool, fitness center, tennis courts, or fitness trail.

Meal tickets for Founders Commons are available for purchase with cash at the door; no advance reservations are necessary.

The program below is subject to change.

Day Two: Friday, September 28

Classes at 10:00 am and 11:00 am are canceled this day to allow students to attend Convocation.

Before Convocation, meet the vice president for enrollment management and dean of student life at an informal continental breakfast and learn more about the support students receive at Mills.

Celebrate the 160th anniversary of Mills College with President Alecia A. DeCoudreaux and the Mills community at Convocation, the traditional opening ceremony of the academic year.

Founders Commons
Dine with your Mills student in picturesque Founders Commons and enjoy sweeping views of the Mills campus. Sample the wide array of delicious food choices that emphasize organic and fresh local ingredients. Mills students may use their meal plan or Mills Points.

Dance Rehearsal: Karen Kilimnik’s World of Ballet and Theater Exhibition

Mills College Art Museum
Explore a new exhibition of 35 works by internationally acclaimed American artist Karen Kilimnik. The Dance Rehearsal exhibition showcases Kilimnik’s fascination with historical theater, which she explores through mediums ranging from figurative drawings and mixed media installations to set and costume design.

Mills College vs. Soka University Soccer Match and Ice Cream Social

Soccer Field (next to Haas Pavilion)
Cheer for our Mills student-athletes as they take on Soka University of America. Come early to enjoy our Athletic Department’s traditional Family Weekend ice cream social before the game.

Julia Morgan Buildings Tour

El Campanil
Join Karen Fiene, campus architect, for a tour of the historic Julia Morgan-designed buildings on campus: El Campanil (1904); Margaret Carnegie Library (1906); Student Union (1916); Kapiolani Cottage, formerly Mills’ infirmary (1910); and Alderwood Hall, now the Julia Morgan School for Girls (1925).

Journey of a Writer: From Manuscript to Published Work

Family Weekend guests are most welcome to come and celebrate Latina Heritage Month with a salsa dance lesson and sample a selection of salsa dips.

Julia Morgan 2012 Opening Reception

Celebrate the extraordinary work and life of groundbreaking architect Julia Morgan at the opening reception for this statewide Landmarks California project. Explore the College’s exhibition of drawings and photographs showcasing Morgan’s accomplishments, which include six Mills buildings.

Founders offers an extensive choice of menu options. Purchase meal tickets at the door; no advance reservations are necessary. Mills students may use the meal plan or Mills Points.

Family-style Supper
6:00 pm–8:00 pm
Orchard Meadow Dining Hall
Mingle with Mills students and alumnae/i during a delicious family-style dinner in beautiful, historic Orchard Meadow Dining Hall. Please note that advance reservations and an additional fee are required to attend this dinner. If your Mills student is attending, they may use their meal plan or Mills Points; standard dinner rates apply.

Darius Milhaud Concert

Littlefield Concert Hall
Enjoy our annual concert featuring works by famed composer and former Mills faculty member Darius Milhaud in our beautifully restored Littlefield Concert Hall. An informal reception with refreshments will follow the concert.

Mills After Dark Party

Reinhardt Alumnae House
Round out your evening with tasty hors d’oeuvres and beverages, live music, and a chance to talk with Mills alumnae/i at the charming Reinhardt Alumnae House.
