Family Weekend 2013 Schedule: Thursday

When you first arrive on campus, please register at the locations and times noted below. At registration, we will provide you with a folder that includes program updates, a campus map, and your name badge. The name badge will serve as your entry pass to all events listed in the program below, unless otherwise noted.

Your name badge also allows you access to Mills athletic facilities. Please bring appropriate clothing and equipment if you wish to participate in our Tennis Festival or take advantage of our swimming pool, fitness center, tennis courts, or fitness trail.

Meal tickets for Founders Commons are available for purchase with cash at the door; no advance reservations are necessary.

Julia Morgan Buildings Tour
4:00 pm–5:30 pm
Tour begins at El Campanil Bell Tower
Join Karen Fiene, campus architect, for a tour of the historic Julia Morgan-designed buildings on campus: El Campanil (1904); Margaret Carnegie Library (1906); Student Union (1916); Kapiolani Cottage, formerly Mills’ infirmary (1910); and Alderwood Hall, now the Julia Morgan School for Girls (1925). This tour will repeat on Saturday at 11:00 am.

Experiments in the Fault Zone: Mills College Art Museum Tour
4:00 pm–5:30 pm
Museum Director Stephanie Hanor will lead a tour of an exhibition that explores the innovative history of fine arts at Mills. Experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaborative work are at the core of the Fine Arts Division’s aesthetic and educational mission. The exhibition traces the legacy of faculty and students, including Trisha Brown, Dave Brubeck, John Cage, Fernand Léger, Darius Milhaud, László Moholy-Nagy, and Marian van Tuyl, who have placed Mills at the forefront of contemporary dance, music, intermedia, and the visual arts worldwide.

Dinner in Founders Commons
5:00 pm–7:30 pm
Dine with your Mills student in picturesque Founders Commons and enjoy sweeping views of the Mills campus. Sample the wide array of delicious food choices that emphasize organic and fresh local ingredients. This meal is covered by your Family Weekend registration, so be sure to wear your name badge. Mills students may use their meal plan or Mills Points.
