Financial Obligations

Students who complete their degree requirements in fall 2012 must have their student account balance paid in full by December 13, and students completing requirements in the spring by May 6, or a hold will be placed on their record restricting college services such as transcript processing and diploma distribution.  

Mandatory Exit Loan Counseling for Federal Stafford and Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Borrowers

Exit Loan Counseling is required for all Federal Stafford and Federal Graduate PLUS Loan recipients. Exit Loan Counseling is an excellent opportunity to review your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. Students completing their degree requirements in May will be sent instructions by mail in April outlining the process for completing the online Exit Loan Counseling. This requirement can be completed online at www.nslds.ed.gov. Please complete your exit loan requirements by April 30, 2013. For convenience, we have also included the instructions below: 

Online Stafford and Graduate PLUS Exit Counseling Instructions: 

  1. Go to www.nslds.ed.gov  
  2. Select Exit Counseling
  3. Click on Start to begin Exit Counseling
  4. Read through the Site Navigation, Intro and Basics pages and continue selecting Next until you reach the Log-In page.
  5. On the Log-In page, enter your information, including your federal Personal Identification Number (PIN). This is the same PIN that was used to complete the FAFSA.
  6. For Schools List Filter, click on the drop down arrow and select "California" then select Display.
  7. For Schools List select "Mills College" and select the Add button then select Submit to begin the exit counseling session

Note: It is not necessary to submit a paper copy of the results to the M Center.

Mandatory Exit Loan Counseling for Federal Perkins Loan Borrowers

Exit loan counseling is required for students who have received a Federal Perkins Loan while enrolled at Mills.

Students completing degree requirments in the fall should come to the M Center between November 28 - December 13, and students completing in the spring should come between April 30 - May 16, to complete required forms that include information on loan deferment and loan repayment or you may complete it at the Financial Counseling website.

A hold will be placed on the student's record restricting college services such as transcript processing and diploma distribution until the completed forms are returned to the M Center. This paperwork is separate from the Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Graduate PLUS Loan and Mills College Loan exit requirements.

Exit loan counseling is required for students who have received a Mills College Loan. Complete an exit packet, which includes forms and information on loan deferment and loan repayment, between November 28 - December 13 if completing degree requirements in the fall and April 30 - May 16 if completing in the spring.

A hold will be placed on the student's record restricting college services such as transcript processing and diploma distribution until the completed forms are returned to the M Center. This paperwork is separate from the Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Graduate PLUS Loan and Perkins Loan exit requirements.
