Mills College is a nationally respected independent liberal arts college for women with graduate programs for both women and men. Located on 135 lush acres in the foothills of Oakland, California, the College enrolls approximately 900 undergraduate women and 500 graduate women and men. The Mills College Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (APER) department offers seven NCAA and NAIA women's varsity sports including soccer, volleyball, cross-country, swimming, tennis, track and field and rowing. The rowing program is a member of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association. APER also offers about 30 Physical Education courses each semester, and a wide variety of recreational and fitness opportunities
The College is recruiting for an Assistant Rowing Coach.
Representative Duties
The Assistant Rowing Coach assists the Head Coach with the overall development of the intercollegiate rowing program.
The Assistant Rowing Coach's primary responsibilities include the following:
- Train the Novice Squad
- Assist Head Coach with recruiting, fundraising, travel arrangements, and budgeting,
- Drive the equipment trailer and van to practices and competitions
- Perform related duties as needed

| Requirements |

Bachelor's degree
-
Sound understanding of rowing fundamentals.

Minimum of 2 years experience coaching or teaching experience preferred

Intermediate swimming skills and boating safety skills and knowledge

Ability to exercise good judgment to ensure the safety of participants

Strong interpersonal and motivational skills
-
Commitment to Mills Athletics Department and NCAA Division III Philosophy
-
Ability to obtain and maintain current certification in CPR-AED and Standard First Aid
-
Ability to obtain a Class B California Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement and to successfully complete a medical examination to drive a 15-passenger van

Availability to work early mornings and weekends
-
Ability to work in the unpredictable outdoor environment and in inclement weather

Ability to exhibit strong customer service orientation for all levels of College constituencies and members of the public

Ability to take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment

Ability to work safely in compliance with College Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.

| Salary |
$10,826 , approximately 10 to 20 hours per week from August 18, 2008 through May 16, 2009, plus state-mandated benefits including Social Security, Workers' Compensation Insurance, State Disability Insurance, and Unemployment Insurance
