The College: Mills College is a nationally respected independent liberal arts college for women with graduate programs for both women and men. Located on 135 lush acres in the foothills of Oakland, California, the College enrolls approximately 900 undergraduate women and 500 graduate women and men. The Division: The Office of the Vice President for Finance, Administration, and Treasurer oversees the functional units of Budget and Finance which include responsibility for institutional budgets, and controllership responsibilities such as general accounting, contracts and grants, accounts payable, endowment accounting, tax reporting, the annual audit, and publication of the annual financial statements. The Office oversees the Employee Services functions of the College, including recruitment, payroll, position control, benefits administration, legal compliance, union contracts, and instituting best practices throughout the College. The Office also oversees risk management programs for the College and is responsible for contracts management.
The College is recruiting for an Assistant Vice President for Administrative Services and Financial Reporting.
Representative Duties
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Administrative Services and Financial Reporting heads the systems team for the Office of the Vice President. The position performs and/or oversees strategic, broad-impact applications design, financial analysis, reporting, and systems development; leads and coordinates the design and implementation of financial, accounting, budget and HRIS systems and reports.
The AVP's primary responsibilities include the following:
- Oversee the design, documentation, and implementation of various integrated systems and applications for periodic and ad hoc financial reporting, utilizing complex electronic information from the College's systems and database (Sungard/SCT Banner).
- Working with the College's central Information Technology team, coordinate new system development and improvements to existing systems; help draft short and long-term plans for the evolution of the technological infrastructure; serve on committees for on-going analysis of system improvement.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; manage work allocation and provide training. Motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
- Compile and analyze financial information and develop integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports, and presentations for senior staff and the Board of Trustees.
- Collaborate with and coordinate with all areas of the College to ensure consistent reporting, adherence to federal and state financial reporting regulations and guidelines, and conformity with College fiscal policies and procedures.
- Analyze, design, document, and implement internal financial/HRIS reporting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Participate as a member of the Vice President's management team in strategic planning, problem resolution, and reviewing divisional and College-wide performance. Assist in the implementation of long-term strategic and financial plans for the College.
- Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.

| Minimum Requirements |

Demonstrated experience with Sungard/SCT Banner or a related higher education integrated database system. Demonstrated familiarity with common SQL constructs, reporting strategies, and database development. Skills to engage the challenges of a Banner ERP environment: enforce data normalization; police data integrity rules; implement Banner workflow; coordinate intersystem communication; understand data processes and basic application development.

Technical skills to understand technical conflicts and people skills to resolve them.

Computer proficiency including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and/or CPA certification preferred.

Minimum of five years relevant experience in higher education or non-profit environment: budgetary management, financial administration, and accounting experience; supervisory and human resources experience, including knowledge of employment laws governing personnel, employee benefits, and payroll tax administration.

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies governing fiscal requirements of educational institutions.

| Salary |
Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403b retirement plan, 22 days vacation plus 13 paid holidays and 12 sick days annually. Staff receives free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
