Description

Mills College is a nationally respected independent liberal arts college for women with graduate programs for both women and men. The College is recruiting for a Director of Campus Facilities.

Representative Duties

The Director of Campus Facilities plans, develops, directs and controls the comprehensive activities, services and operations of Campus Facilities, including capital construction and improvements and deferred maintenance projects; work requests, preventive maintenance, janitorial and setup. The Director is responsible for the management of approximately 25 employees who handle all aspects of physical plant operation and grounds maintenance.

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Campus Facilities include the following:

  • Plan, develop, direct and control the comprehensive activities, services and operations of Campus Facilities; allocate personnel and resources to optimize departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; arrange, schedule and participate in providing periodic training to department personnel with emphasis on job skills development and safety.
  • Direct and participate in the development and assembly of bid specifications and the awarding of maintenance and construction contracts; work with contractors on projects and request bids for work to be performed; assure compliance with contract specifications and applicable laws, codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate the purchase of facilities operational supplies and equipment; direct inventory control.
  • Coordinate work requests, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs and remodeling projects; prepare cost, time and labor estimates.
  • Develop and prepare the annual preliminary budget for Campus Facilities department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures.
  • Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the Associate Vice President regarding assigned functions; assist as needed in the formulation and development of fiscal policies, procedures, and programs; advise the Associate Vice President of unusual trends or problems and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in architectural, civil or electrical engineering, construction technology or related field and six years supervisory experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of large buildings and budget preparation and control.

DEMONSTRATED WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Principles and practices of administration, supervision, interviewing, selection, discipline and training.
  • Engineering related to mechanical systems, building and utilities.
  • Local, state and federal building codes, regulations, and laws pertaining to construction, environment and energy conservation.
  • Landscape planning and sustainability knowledge/experience a plus.
  • Local, state and federal safety regulations, ADA, disaster preparedness procedures and fire prevention and response training. Federal and state health department regulations and safety procedures.
  • Contracting for services and contract management; development of bid specifications and contract awarding procedures; purchasing laws, rules and regulations related to bid procedures.
  • Methods, equipment and materials used in maintenance and construction in a variety of facilities trades, occupations and operations.
  • Waste stream management practices and procedures. Custodial practices and procedures.
  • Fleet management and maintenance practices.
  • Budget preparation and control.
  • MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, Megamation Direct Line Maintenance Management System or similar maintenance management system, and other facility software applications.
  • Detailed working knowledge of the Banner accounting system highly desirable.

Salary Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403(b) retirement plan, 22 days vacation plus 13 paid holidays and 12 sick days annually. Staff also receives free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
