Application Deadlines

The priority deadline for receipt of all application materials is February 1 for fall admission. The priority deadline for spring admission is November 1. Due to the additional application requirements, international applicants must submit all application materials by December 15 for fall admission and October 1 for spring admission.

Applications are reviewed when all supporting materials have been received, and official notification of an admission decision is sent in writing from the Office of Graduate Admission. Most programs review applications on a rolling admission basis after the priority deadline.

All applicants to the graduate degree and certificate programs at Mills College are required to submit the following:

Graduate Application for Admission: Complete all sections of the online or hard-copy application as indicated, including a required Statement of Purpose essay. The essay should be typed, double spaced, and one to two pages in length.

Application Fee of $50: Payable to Mills College by check or money order, drawn on a U.S. bank. Credit cards and electronic checks are accepted for online application submission. Cash is not accepted.

Official Transcripts: One official transcript with grades from each post-secondary institution attended toward receipt of bachelor's degree should be sent directly by each institution to the Office of Graduate Admission.

Please Note:
Admission to graduate or post-baccalaureate study at Mills College is contingent upon the possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. If you are still completing your degree at the time of application, send official transcripts showing work completed and in progress.

Immediately upon completion of the baccalaureate degree requirements, it is your responsibility to send a final transcript with the degree posted to our office.

Three Letters of Recommendation: Special recommendation forms can be downloaded or sent as part of the online application.
Note: Current Mills College students and alumnae are only required to submit one letter of recommendation.

Special Admission Requirements:

In addition to the regular graduate admission requirements, applicants to the Interdisciplinary Computer Science Master’s Program and the advanced-degree track of the post-baccalaureate program must have the equivalent of:

•one year of introductory computer science using Java or C++; and
•one year of discrete mathematics. (Students with only one semester of discrete mathematics may arrange to complete their second semester at Mills, but this credit will not count toward their degree.)

Provisions may be made to complete these requirements through the Mills post-baccalaureate certificate program.

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in a major other than computer science.
