Ashley Battle, Admission Counselor
abattle@mills.ed
Ashley graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2006, where she majored in African-American Studies. Although she loved being in an all women's environment, she did not like the cold weather. After completing a Master's degree in journalism at Columbia University, she moved to California to get away from the snow.
After a couple brief jobs in journalism, she realized that she wanted to work directly with people and have an impact on their lives, even if it was for a short moment. Even though she was doing both of those things in journalism, it wasn't fulfilling anymore. Since she was raised by parents who work in higher education, she decided to switch to the field of education herself and look into working on a college campus.
She works with first year students and enjoys helping them learn the in and outs of admission to Mills-and making it as fun as possible.
"Applying to college can be a very stressful experience, and I like to make it as relaxed as I can for the students I work with. A lot of students don't have as much support as I did when I was applying to college, and I love being able to give them the support that they may not have had otherwise. I also encourage students to ask as many questions as they like: no question is ‘dumb' or ‘silly,' because if you don't ask the questions, you'll never get the answers."
