Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation
Athletics at Mills is not about winning (although we do that, too). It’s about challenging yourself, being part of a team, learning to lead, and building your health and confidence for a lifetime.
While we have our share of experienced athletes, we also encourage all Mills students to participate in a sport. The bond between our student-athletes and their coaches helps students succeed on the field and in the classroom.
Mills Cyclones have earned national distinctions in swimming, rowing, and cross country. And these students perform academically as well with some of the highest GPAs on campus and in national competitions. Our student-athletes also share their spirit with the community by coaching underserved children, renovating local schools, raising money for breast cancer, conducting sports clinics, and donating school supplies for hurricane recovery.
Mills is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Division III) and the Association of Division III Independents. Our teams travel across the United States and to Hawaii.
Physical Education
Exploration is at the core of a liberal arts education, as is maintaining a healthy body. Our more than 40 PE classes make it possible for you to learn new skills and develop recreational interests that will last a lifetime.
Though we don’t require physical education at Mills, our PE classes are hugely popular. Every semester, more than half of the student body takes advantage of our activity courses that include yoga, hiking, personal defense for women, cardio-samba, cardio-kickboxing, massage, horseback riding, sailing, and karate.
Recreation
Take a breathtaking horseback ride on the beach. Hike up Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. Enjoy a tailgate party at an A’s game. Go whale watching in Monterey. Soak in the Calistoga hot springs.
Located in an outdoor recreation mecca with access to both mountains and water, Mills offers a range of off-campus activities so you can experience California’s remarkable beauty firsthand.
