Joan Jaffe, Associate Dean of Admission

joanj@mills.edu

Joan was impressed by the Mills students who protested the 1990 decision to become a co-ed school.  Lots of schools became co-educational, but Mills was the only college where the decision was successfully reversed.  She says, "I was thrilled to be able to join this remarkable community in 1992, at a time when the College was re-dedicating its commitment to educate undergraduate women. As a graduate of a women's college, I know the experience is invaluable and I want to share that with students." It is common for students to reject the idea of a women's college without really knowing anything about women's education. "I want young women to know about the women's colleges—and Mills—so that they can make an informed choice about their education." For young women who are willing to learn about the extraordinary opportunities available, and choose to attend, it can be a life-changing experience.

Joan is excited to work with students and see them become excited by the idea of becoming Mills women; women who will change their world.
