Vivienne Damatan, Admission Counselor
vdamatan@mills.edu
Vivienne is a young alumna from the University of California, Berkeley where she received a B.A. in psychology as well as a minor in Asian American Studies. While a student, she helped found and facilitated Ethnic Perspectives, a history course exploring traditionally overlooked voices. She was also very active in the multicultural community, working closely with Pilipino Academic Student Services, “bridges” Multicultural Recruitment and Retention Center, Cal Corps Public Service Center, and Cross Cultural Student Development in the area of educational recruitment. This is where she developed her passion for counseling students about post-high school opportunities in higher education.
After graduation, Vivienne worked with the San Diego Unified School District as an instructional behavior technician as well as a charter school teaching assistant before moving back to the Bay Area to join the San Francisco Education Fund's effort to engage the community in supporting public education in San Francisco.
After exploring issues in K–12 education, Vivienne was drawn back to her passion of counseling high school students about college opportunities. She happily joined the Mills College family in August of 2006 and is ecstatic about the welcoming environment that she has found. “It’s so nice to be in a place where people actually know your name!” Vivienne says. “I loved my experience at UC Berkeley as an undergrad student, but if you are looking for a community in which the faculty and staff really care and take the time to get to know you, then Mills is definitely the place to be!”
