10:00 am–12:00 noon Personal Storytelling Workshop Do you have a story to tell or a memoir to write and want to flex your storytelling skills? Anita Sufi, MA ’09, will lead participants in personal storytelling exercises and share her own account of teaching a writing course for inmates at San Quentin State Prison. Sufi currently works as a lecturer at the Mills School of Education and was the graduate student speaker for Commencement 2009. This workshop is organized in collaboration with the AAMC Educational Outreach Committee.
Newly added! 11:00 am–12:00 noon Change: The Mills Story, Then and Now Attend a lively presentation on the evolution of Mills over the years—from young ladies’ seminary to liberal arts women’s college—as it continues to educate women for leadership in a changing world. Presenter Marge Nicholson, MA ’96, is former director of human resources at the College and initially developed this material for staff orientation.

Newly added! 5:00 pm–6:30 pm, Saturday 12:00 noon–1:30 pm, Sunday Launch Reception for New Affinity Group: LGBTIQ Alumnae/i of Mills College Come out and mingle with LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and/or questioning) alumnae/i, friends, and allies—everyone is welcome! This affinity group* has just been created for LGBTIQ alumnae to network and keep on top of College news and activities. Hear from faculty and students about the College’s new Queer Studies Initiative. Learn about the group’s officer nomination process and share ideas for future activities. 1:00 pm–3:00 pm Ethnic Studies Department 40th Anniversary: Barbeque Celebration In 1969, a fledgling ethnic studies curriculum was instituted as a result of a student protest. (Read the full story on page 10 of the summer 2010 issue of the Mills Quarterly). Now one of the longest-running and innovative programs in its field, the Ethnic Studies Department at Mills features tenured faculty, distinguished visiting professors, community-based service learning programs, and an extensive calendar of events honoring diverse cultures. Planned in partnership with the AAMC Alumnae of Color Committee and the Ethnic Studies Department, this afternoon’s celebration pays tribute to the department’s 40th anniversary and all ethnic studies alumnae.
