Athletics
The intercollegiate athletics program at Mills College has a tradition of excellence. Among our accomplishments are a 1996 national rowing championship plus national championship appearances in 1995 and 1998, eight-time NAIA national championship participants in swimming since 2001, and two cross country teams that qualified for the 1999 and 2009 NAIA national championships, in addition to individual qualifiers in 2008, 2010, and 2011.
Our goal is to provide undergraduate women with high-quality intercollegiate competition that places highest priority on development of the whole student-athlete. We teach life skills that transcend athletics. Each year our teams raise thousands of dollars to combat breast cancer. Our student-athletes use their talents to reach out into the community and teach others their sport. Exceptional women role models come to speak to our student-athletes, such as Olympic soccer gold medalist Tiffany Milbert and two-time Olympian in pentathlon Marilyn King. Depending on the sport, students who have never competed on a team before can transform into athletes at Mills. Mothers, women over traditional college age, and working women have found ways in this supportive environment to balance their academics, personal obligations, and Mills athletics. |
