Lifeguard Training Class

Prepare yourself for a great job!

Full Lifeguard Training Course

Prerequisites:

Must be 15 years old by the last scheduled day of the class and be able to pass a swimming pre-test, consisting of:

  • Swim 300 yards using a combination of freestyle (with side breathing and a strong kick) and breaststroke with correct coordination and good power.
  • Tread water for two minutes, legs only.
  • Swim 20 yards freestyle or breaststroke, dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return it to the surface, swim back to the starting point supporting that object with both hands while face remains above surface, set the object on the deck, get out of the water without using stairs or ladders within a given time limit of 1:40.

Cost:

  • $190, includes text, whistle and lanyard, pocket mask and ARC fees.

   Class Two April 9–13, 2012

  • Monday through Friday, April 9–13, 9:00 am–3:00 pm
  • Registration Deadline: 3/26

   Class Three April 15–May 6, 2012

  • Sundays, April 15, 22, 29 & May 6, 9:30 am–4:30 pm
  • Registration Deadline: 4/1

   Class Four June 3-9, 2012

  • Sunday & Saturday, June 3 & 9, 8:00 am–4:00 pm plus
  • Monday, Wednesday & Friday, June 4, 6 & 8, 4:00 pm–7:00 pm
  • Registration Deadline: 5/21

   Class Five June 25-July 5, 2012

  • Monday through Thursday, June 25-28, July 2, 3, & 5, 9:00 am–1:00 pm
  • Registration Deadline: 6/11

Need to Re-certify Your Lifeguard Training?

Get re-certified in Water Rescue skills and CPR/AED and First Aid skills.

Lifeguard Training Challenge Courses

Dates:

None scheduled until the spring

 Prerequisites

  • Must have current Lifeguard Training certification or have held certification that has expired within the last year.
  • Must provide your own rescue mask and whistle  (available for purchase for $12).

You MUST be prepared to be tested—written tests and skill tests. There will be NO instruction or review provided—it's a challenge not a review.

Cost: $80, includes American Red Cross fees.

To register, print out the Registration Form and mail it in with the course fee. There is a class limit of 12 students.

Junior Lifeguarding

Prepare yourself for the Lifeguard Training Class

Dates:  TBA 

 Prerequisites:

Must be 11–14 years of age and able to pass a swimming pre-test, consisting of:

  • Swim front crawl for 25 yards with side breathing and a strong kick
  • Tread water for one minute
  • Swim underwater for 10 feet

Cost: $140, includes workbook and whistle.

Basic Water Rescue

This course four-hour course is designed to meet the water safety training required for adoptive and foster parents.

Class One

  • Sunday, February 12, 2012, 9:00 am–1:00 pm

Class Two

  • Saturday, May 5, 2012, 9:00 am–1:00 pm

Class Three

  • Saturday, August 4, 2012, 9:00 am–1:00 pm

Class Four

  • Saturday, November 3, 2012, 9:00 am–1:00 pm

Requirements: There is no swimming prerequisite for this course. If students wish to participant in the optional in-water session, they should be comfortable in chest deep water.

Cost: $50
