The Mills College Cross Country philosophy revolves around the holistic development of each individual through the sport of running. Our team typically consists of ten to twelve runners which allows for individualized training and strong team cohesion. Each time a Mills College runner steps onto a trail, she has the opportunity for physical improvement, connection with teammates, and transcending preconceived limitations of the body, mind, and spirit. Additionally, our coaches seek to instill each student-athlete with a balanced focus and a lifetime commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle. With this philosophy, our runners have qualified for the NCAA and the NAIA National Championships and have twice captured the California Pacific Conference Championship (in 1999 and 2001).
Our daily training venues include beautiful coastal redwood trails located minutes from campus as well as weekend training runs on the beach, Mount Tamalpais, and in the Santa Cruz mountains! As an endowed program, we have traveled to Hawaii, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, as well as to Oregon and San Diego. While the team revels in the remarkable beauty of our world-class training grounds, each participant is encouraged to "run within" and to find enjoyment in the process, as well as the outcome, of training and competition. Additionally, many runners discover that their cross country teammates become their friends for life!
