Mills Athletics News December 15, 2010 - Senior rower, Kirin Khan, is one of two student-athletes featured in this year's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) video highlighting legislative proposals and hot topics that will be discussed and voted on at the 2010 NCAA Annual Convention on January 13-16 in Atlanta, Georgia. Khan was selected to the National SAAC in March 2009. As a National SAAC representative, Khan is among only 24 student-athletes from across the country who are liaisons to address student-athlete issues between the institutional, conference and national levels. Members have the opportunity to sit on a multitude of NCAA Division III and association-wide committees in order to provide feedback and input on legislation, governance concerns and membership decisions. Kirin Khan’s leadership in athletics, academics and community service has made her an outstanding candidate to serve on this selective national committee. Khan, a PLEA major from Albuquerque, NM, is in her fourth year on the Mills rowing team, participated on the cross country team this fall, and has been a part of the Mills SAAC since 2007. In addition to her leadership in athletics, Khan excels academically with a 3.86 GPA, is a peer tutor and teaching assistant, and volunteers as a rowing coach with the Jack London Aquatic Center junior women’s rowing team. She is planning to continue her studies at Mills in the MBA program after graduating in December. The video provides an update on legislation the National SAAC is tracking and soliciting feedback from student-athletes. It also includes a current hot topic the National SAAC would like to hear feedback on from student-athletes. The video is also available on the Division III SAAC Website under the heading ‘Videos’ and title ‘2010 Convention Hot Topics’.
