Mills College Crew Brings Home a Victory

October 24, 2009  Mills' Lightweight 4+ earned a gold medal in their 5000 meter race, in addition to strong racing by all other Mills' boats at the Head of the American, the largest regatta in the region for the autumn racing season.

In the first race of the afternoon, Mills Varsity Eight defeated all three Humboldt State crews to finish 12th out of 15 mostly DI and DII schools. With less than ten minutes rest before launching again, four rowers from the Eight jumped into two boats and headed back out for some more racing.

The highlight of the afternoon was the victory of the Lightweight Four. Congratulations to Katie Crownover, Kate Smith, Zoe Marcus, Colleen Kimsey, and Jess LaFrank!

And finally, despite a mad dash to get to the starting line, the Varsity Four defeated Sonoma State and finished 15th out of 19 DI and DII schools.

The Head of the American at Lake Natoma, outside of Sacramento, CA, hosted 55 organizations, 14 of which were collegiate institutions. Mills College was the only NCAA Div. III represented.
