Mills College Walk/Run Club
2nd Friday of each month
9:00 am–11:00 am
The trails of the Oakland hills are one of the city's treasures. Students, faculty, staff and friends are invited to join the Walk/Run Club for morning exercise on beautiful redwood trails in the East Bay. You can see rushing streams, blossoming trees, and gorgeous views of the bay while running through redwood forests and mossy trails.
All Mills Walk/Run Club events will be held on the second Friday of every month at 9 am. Those who would like to participate should meet outside Haas Pavilion and be prepared to leave campus no later than 9:05 am. We will return to campus no later than noon.
Come prepared with good running or walking shoes, extra clothes, a watch, and a water bottle. Be prepared for all kinds of weather, and during the rainy months, expect to be walking and running through muddy trails. You may get a little dirty, but it’s all part of the fun! Come fifteen minutes early to fill out a waiver if you are attending for the first time, and bring medical insurance information as well.
Join us for these Spring 2008 dates:
Feburary 8
March 14
April 11
May 9
No reservation required! For more information, contact Laura Davis at 510.430.3282 or ldavis@mills.edu.

Mills Walks: STAY TUNED!
Cost: Students–$5; Staff/Faculty/Alumnae–$10; Friends of the College–$15
Put on your walkin' shoes and join us for MILLS WALKS! Connect with other members of the Mills Community who want to walk their way to health and happiness.
Do you want to improve your fitness, meet others who are interested in becoming more focused on healthy living, and earn incentive prizes while not drastically altering your daily routine? Join other students, staff, and faculty as they step their way to increased awareness of activity levels and improved fitness.
Mills Walks is a pedometer-based walking wellness program. Members wear a pedometer (a gadget that counts each step taken) each day and are encouraged to increase the number of steps they take. As they walk, each member tracks the steps taken on the handy Step Tracker Log. As each member reaches a milestone, incentive prizes are awarded.
Research has shown that 7,000–10,000 steps in a daily routine are the equivalent to a moderate-intensity 30 minute workout. The goal of Mills Walks is to encourage members to achieve at least 7,000 steps a day as often as possible. In order to increase the number of steps taken during the day, consider parking a bit farther away from the grocery store entrance, using the stairs instead of the elevator, or taking a lunchtime walk.
Members of Mills Walks will receive a pedometer, maps of the Mills College on-campus fitness trail and of the surrounding East Bay Regional Parks, a booklet about pedometers and pedometer wellness programs, a Step Tracker Log for easy documentation of the steps taken, and the names and e-mail addresses of other members in order to facilitate club-wide communication and walking partners, if desired.
Incentives for Step Milestones:
100,000 (about 2 weeks)—Mills Walks Light/Whistle Key Chain
200,000 (about 1 month)—Mills Walks Water Bottle
500,000 (about 2.5 months)—Mills Walks T-Shirt
1 Million (about 5 months)—Mills Walks Duffle Bag
