Room Options

Quiet Sections

Mills offers multiple options when it comes to quiet sections. dorm windows Residents of these rooms are required to sign an agreement to maintain quiet hours and to comply with any resident's request for quiet.

Ethel Moore Hall has areas designated as 12-hour quiet spaces. The quiet hours are from 8 pm to 8 am in these areas. This is an appealing option for many of our athletes, or for those with early-morning schedule commitments.

The Wellness Community, located in Warren Olney Hall, provides 12-hour quiet for freshwomen.

Porch Rooms

The porch is an outdoor common area space, enclosed on three sides. Porch rooms in Orchard-Meadow and Warren Olney Halls consist of two small single rooms separated by a shared porch. In Ethel Moore Hall, porch rooms consist of one double room and a porch.

Porch rooms are primarily assigned to roommate (porchmate) pairs. If a porch room is half-occupied, the College may assign another resident to the space. In some cases a student resident may be offered the option of converting an Ethel Moore porch room to a "super single," for an additional fee.

Resumer Options

Resuming students include female students 23 years of age or older and mothers who are not living with their children.

A section of Ethel Moore Hall has been designated for resuming students. Ross House is also designated for resuming students. Resumers wishing to live among other resumers are encouraged to request a room in a resumer section.

Female graduate students may live in any upper-class residence hall and often prefer to live in the resumer section.

The Ross House is an option for resumers needing winter break housing, as it is on a nine-month contract.

Disability Accessible Rooms

Rooms with physical access for students with disabilities are available in Orchard Meadow Hall, Warren Olney Hall, Larsen House Co-op, Ross House, and Prospect Hill Apartments. These rooms have lowered sinks, lower closet bars, and a 5-foot diameter space in the center.

Arrangements for these rooms must be made in conjunction with the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities. The Director can be contacted at the Division of Student Life at 510.430.2130.
