Letter from President Janet L. Holmgren

Greetings!

On behalf of our entire community, I welcome you to Mills College. As a new Mills woman, you join a 156-year legacy of achievement. We are all pleased that you have chosen to pursue your undergraduate studies at Mills, and I look forward to meeting you personally in the coming weeks.

Mills is a special place, one devoted to empowering women through leadership, social responsibility, creativity, and experimentalism. Here you will find an environment that inspires intellectual discovery and personal growth. Our exceptional faculty and staff are committed to your success, and I encourage you to take advantage of our small size and the accessibility of these amazing people.

Inside and outside the classroom, the Mills support system is extensive. I would like to take this opportunity to identify senior administrators and College Officers, who oversee the administrative and academic offices and who are available to assist you. They are:

  • Giulietta Aquino, Dean of Undergraduate Admission, 510.430.3296
  • LaDene Diamond, Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer, 510.430.3322
  • David Gin, Associate Vice President for Student Finances & Administrative Services, 510.430.3264
  • Sandra Greer, Provost/Dean of Faculty, 510.430.2096
  • RenĂ©e Jadushlever, Vice President for Operations, 510.430.2040
  • Joi Lewis, Dean of Student Life, 510.430.2132
  • Michael Lopez, Director of Public Safety, 510.430.3103
  • Karen Maggio, Assistant Vice President of Campus Planning & Facilities, 510.430.2013
  • Virginia Rivera, Vice President for Development, 510.430.2070
  • Ramon Torrecilha, Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement, 510.430.2205

I also recommend that you take advantage of the many fun events and programs that are part of Student Orientation. The Division of Student Life recognizes that acclimating to a new school can be intimidating, so the staff has designed a program that will make your transition to Mills easy and enjoyable. Orientation activities will introduce you to life at Mills, enhance your classroom studies, and help you make personal connections with your fellow Mills students. One of the most important aspects of your Mills experience will be your friendship and collaboration with your talented and diverse classmates—they may become your friends for life!

I wish you an unparalleled academic experience at Mills and a semester of significant personal growth.

Sincerely,

Janet L. Holmgren
President
