Green Department Certification The Sustainability Center partnered with the MBA Program and Economics Department to develop a Green Department Certification in the fall of 2011. This certification is an opportunity for Mills College departments to evaluate their current operational practices, receive assistance in adopting initiatives that enhance their commitment to environmental stewardship, and receive recognition for their efforts. To get started, take a look at the resources below and contact Britta Bullard, Sustainability Coordinator, at bbullard@mills.edu if you would like an introductory presentation for your department. When a department is ready to pursue certification, they will form a Green Team to spearhead the process. The checklist includes a short list of required items, followed by a longer list of optional items that have a point value. There is the opportunity to obtain a Silver, Gold, or Platinum level of certification, depending on how many points are earned. Those who complete the certification process will receive a certificate for display in a public area and access to the logo to use on printed or electronic materials. The process provides the opportunity for operational efficiency, thus to save costs for the department and college. Overall, faculty and staff act as mentors to students, providing the opportunity to model stewardship as an innovative way to address global challenges.
