Reusables Drive What to Recycle and Compost | Electronics Recycling
Re-Use Depot | Reusables Drive | Green Event Guide RecycleMania During the move-out process at the end of the year, many students discover that there are items they no longer want. In the past, many of these items ended up in the dumpster and headed toward the landfill. The Reusables Drive provides the opportunity for students to donate the items they do not need, directing them toward the Re-Use Depot or local charities. This program keeps our resources in the community and extends their useful life. For the past four years, Door to Door Storage has partnered with the Sustainability Center by donating their storage pods to the Reusables Drive. These pods, labeled Reusables Drive, are placed in the parking lot directly next to the residence hall, providing students with a dry, enclosed location to donate their items. They are available to students the last week before move-out. The Re-Use Depot closes the Friday before the last day of instruction in order to make room for the Reusables Drive operations. The Sustainability Coordinator and a team of student workers collect the donated items, sort them according to their appropriate destinations, and direct them to either the Re-Use Depot or local organizations. If you are a local program or charity and would like to provide a needs list, please contact Britta Bullard, Sustainability Coordinator, at bbullard@mills.edu before the last day of instruction. We ask that community members stay out of the Reusables Drive pods and respect those spaces. If you are interested in browsing the items that are donated, many of them will be available during the Re-Use Depot Open House at the end of August. Buying reused clothes at a reduced cost from local organizations supports social justice programs. Thank you for considering your community and environment in deciding to reuse. |
