MILLS COLLEGE ALUMNA AWARDED FULBRIGHT AWARD
Oakland, CA - Sarah K. Lee, an alumna from Mills College’s class of 2001, has received a Fulbright Grant to teach English as a Foreign Language in Taiwan. The award was announced this week by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Lee is one of more than 1,000 students nationwide who will travel abroad for the 2005-06 academic year through the Fulbright Program.
Lee earned her bachelor’s degree in Political, Legal, and Economic Analysis, and has been working in education reform in San Francisco.
“Mills was such a great place where women walk away feeling there’s nothing they can’t try,” said Lee. “I volunteered in the community, completed internships, and worked in the schools; every experience was a stepping stone toward achieving the Fulbright honor.”
Fulbright awards are based on academic or professional achievement and demonstrated leadership in recipients’ fields. The flagship U.S. international educational exchange program, the Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
