MILLS COLLEGE RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD OF MERIT FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
Oakland, CA - Mills College has received an “Award of Merit” by the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) for its “Swim-a-Mile for Women with Cancer” 2005 event. Under the leadership of swim coach Neil Virtue, this year’s fundraiser for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center (Oakland, CA) raised more than $250,000 with 520 swimmers participating on October 1 and 2, 2005.
The NADIIIAA/Jostens Community Service Award recognized Mills for this “impressive community service project” performed by student-athletes in 2004-05.
Mills’ outstanding Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Department is a member of the California Pacific Conference, National Collegiate Athletic Association (Division III), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Mills Cyclones compete in six sports: cross country, rowing, soccer, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.
NADIIIAA is an association of athletics administrators from the 437 institutions and 40 conferences competing at the NCAA Division III level. Its purpose is to encourage the continued development of athletics programs focused on the student-athlete and based on sound educational philosophy.
