MILLS COLLEGE ART MUSEUM TO PRESENT BOLLYWOOD FEATURE FILMS
Five Movies on Love and Betrayal to Screen June 20-August 6, 2006
 

Oakland, CA - The Mills College Art Museum will present five films this summer spanning 50 years of Bollywood cinema: Lajja (2001), Henna (1991), Dostana (1980), Guide (1965), and Mr. and Mrs. 55 (1955). Curated by Mary-Ann Milford Lutzker, provost and dean of the Mills faculty, the films explore the epic themes of love and betrayal.

Daily screenings begin at 11:30 am and the films will be shown continuously during regular Museum hours.* Individual and group viewings will also be available. Refreshments will be provided, and families are welcome. 

The Bollywood film exhibition is presented in conjunction with the University of California at Berkeley Art Museum Summer Exhibition, "The Edge of Desire: Recent Art in India." This exhibition is supported by the Society for Arts and Cultural Heritage of India (SACHI).

The Mills College Art Museum will host an opening reception and lecture on Saturday, June 24, 2006. Film scholars Kristy Phillips and Deborah Stein will discuss "The Art of Film as a Cultural Mirror in India” from 4 pm–5 pm in the Danforth Lecture Hall, and a reception will be held in the Art Museum from 5 pm–7 pm.
