MILLS PERFORMING GROUP TO BE FEATURED ON KALW 91.7 FM
Spring Concert will air Sunday, June 25 at 10 am
Oakland, CA - The Mills College Performing Group’s spring concert will be broadcast on KALW 91.7 FM as part of their “Performances at 10” series. The broadcast will air Sunday, June 25 at 10 am. The concert took place in the Concert Hall on the Mills College campus on April 8, 2006. Highlights of the concert include Morton Feldman’s The King of Denmark; John Cage’s Four6; and original compositions from Mills Music Department faculty Fred Frith and Steed Cowart.
The Mills Performing Group is an ensemble comprised of Mills faculty and graduate students in the MFA Performance and Literature program, and top Bay Area musicians and distinguished guest artists. The ensemble performs many different musical genres and techniques, from traditional solos, notated works, and chamber music to recent compositions, indeterminate scores, and free interpretation. As part of the Mills College Music Department, the Group was founded in 1963 by Luciano Berio, Darius Milhaud, and Morton Subotnick and is dedicated to presenting and performing works from diverse repertories.
KALW’s “Performances at 10” is a Sunday morning performance lecture series presented in conjunction with San Francisco Performances. Providing commercial-free news and music programming, KALW is licensed to the San Francisco Unified School District and funded by individual listeners and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
