DANCE PROFESSOR LI CHIAO-PING RECEIVES OUTSTANDING REVIEW FOR PREMIERE PERFORMANCE, CHOREOGRAPHY

Oakland, CA - Li Chiao-Ping, professor of dance at Mills College, has received an outstanding review in Madison, Wisconsin for her dance concert “HOME WORKS” in Overture’s Promenade Hall.

In an article entitled “Down to Earth” in Isthmus (February 1, 2007), writer Susan Kepecs described Li’s latest dance as “returning to the earthly intelligent bodies of her earlier, classic postmodern work. Li’s solo world premiere of “Mendelsohnn Piece,” choreographed for her by June Watanabe, retired Mills professor of dance, was described by Kepecs as packed with “power.”

“I loved the Beat Generation feel of ‘FoRAY,’ the Midwest premiere of a solo Li choreographed for herself,” wrote Kepecs. She also liked Li’s work for five Mills Repertory Company graduate student dancers, “Here lies my body, my body lies here,” which she described as a “young, lean, California-edged piece.”

Mills College is a nationally renowned, independent liberal arts college offering innovative degree programs for undergraduate women, and graduate degree and certificate programs for women and men.
