JUDITH ROSENBERG, MILLS FACULTY MEMBER, TO PERFORM ORIGINAL SCORE FOR ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL

Oakland, CA - Judith Rosenberg, artist/lecturer and music director of dance at Mills College, will give two musical performances as part of the Asian American
Film Festival on Saturday, March 24, 2007. The performances will take place at the Oakland Museum of California at 12:30 pm and 2 pm.

Rosenberg’s original piano composition will accompany the silent film “The Curse of Quon Gwon,” a tale of family conflict arising from blending eastern and western cultures in China. Written and directed in 1916 by Marion Wong, a Chinese American from Oakland, the 35-minute film is considered the oldest known Chinese American film. It was recently honored by the Library of Congress for inclusion in the National Film Registry.

Rosenberg was recently invited to accompany the silent film, “Her Sister from Paris,” at the Donnell Library as part of the New York Public Library “Meet the Composer Series.” She says that playing her compositions to accompany silent films worldwide has provided her with “an amazing education in culture.”

Tickets ($8, or free to Museum members) to the March 24 performances are available at the Museum door, 1000 Oak Street, Oakland, CA 94607.
