MILLS COLLEGE ALUMNA KYMBERLY JACKSON PERFORMS ON “SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO” IN HARLEM Oakland, CA - Mills College alumna Kymberly Jackson (’99, MFA ‘04), a professional flautist, was selected to perform as a contestant on the world famous Apollo Theater stage in Harlem, New York, on March 5, 2007. She appeared as part of the program, “Showtime at the Apollo,” which will air on various networks on May 5, 2007. “Showtime at the Apollo” is a syndicated music television show, first broadcast in 1987, and produced by Apollo. It features live performances from professional and up-and-coming artists, as well as the “Amateur Night” competition made popular at the famous theater where the show is recorded. Jackson is a musician, vocalist, composer, producer, recording artist, and music educator. Her recent credits include: performing with the Oaktown Jazz Workshop for the inauguration of Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums; appearing as the opening act for Latoya London and Goapele at a KBLX Radio concert series; and performing for a fundraising event for the re-election of Mayor Rudy Clay (Gary, IN) at Geoffrey's Inner Circle night club in Oakland. Jackson said, “Performing on the Apollo stage with amazing musicians was an unforgettable experience!! It was a dream come true that I won't soon forget. I'm very grateful for the opportunity, and I would like to thank everyone, especially the Mills community that supported me.” Jackson’s next local public performance will be at Anna's Jazz Island in Berkeley on April 27.
