MILLS COMMUNITY HOLDS VIGIL TO HONOR VIRGINIA TECH
Oakland, CA - The tragedy that occurred this week at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia leaves us shocked and filled with sadness. The deaths of over 30 persons on that campus make this the deadliest attack on a school in our country’s history, a disaster that is almost incomprehensible to most of us. Our hearts and support go out to the entire university community and most specifically to the students and families whose lives have been forever transformed by this inexplicable horror.
Students are reminded that the counseling services in the Division of Student Life stand ready to help them deal with the emotions raised by these tragic circumstances. Mills faculty and staff should refer to the Office of Human Resources for guidance and support. Finally, although it is impossible to foresee a tragedy such as Virginia Tech has faced, please be assured that the College has in place an emergency preparedness plan, a public safety system, and an established protocol to follow in the event of any life-threatening emergency. There will be a vigil to honor the Virginia Tech community in the Mills College Chapel on Thursday, April 19 between 12:20-12:50 pm. All Mills community members are invited to come together at this difficult time.
