Holmgren has received the Chief Executive Officer Leadership Award for District VII from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Oakland, CA - Numerous sources have reported that a Mills undergraduate student, Boitumelo "Tumi" McCallum, was found dead at her mother’s New York City apartment on Sunday, August 5, 2007. The details of her reported death have shocked the Mills community, and the College mourns the loss of a bright and talented young woman whose future has been tragically cut short. Mills Scholar-Athletes Recognized for High Grade Point Average
Oakland, CA - The Mills College swimming and diving team has been recognized for academic excellence by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). One of only nine swimming and diving teams at universities and colleges nationwide to be honored as a 2006-07 NAIA scholar team, the women achieved an overall 3.31 grade point average, qualifying them for recognition. Deep Sea Corals Provide Archives of Ocean Climate
Oakland, CA - Kristina Faul, assistant professor of environmental sciences at Mills College, recently embarked on a research cruise along the California coast to study corals providing environmental archives of ocean circulation and climate change for the past several hundred years. Davis, associate professor of history and Latin American studies at Middlebury College in Vermont. Lokey a Major Supporter of Mills, Women’s Advancement
Oakland, CA - Lorry I. Lokey, a Mills College Trustee and major donor, has been named among the nation’s most generous philanthropists in The Chronicle of Philanthropy (“Record-Breaking Giving,” February 22, 2007). Ranked 10th on the list of 60 philanthropists, he gave away $163 million in 2006. Lokey is one of 21 Americans noted for giving away more than $100 million last year—a new record in philanthropic giving. Oakland, CA - Award-winning author Tillie Olsen passed away on January 1, 2007, at the age of 94. An activist who fought against the silencing of women, and for the rights of American workers, Olsen received an honorary doctor of letters degree from Mills College in 1995. Her daughter, Julie Olsen Edwards (Class of 1960) attended Mills and her granddaughter, Rebekah Edwards (Class of 1994), graduated from Mills with honors and is a lecturer in the College’s English Department.
