Mills College Art Installation Features Historic Architecture

May 25, 2010 - The Mills College Art Museum is pleased to announce Here and Now, a series of site-specific installations on three historic Oakland buildings, including Mills Hall, curated by Christian L. Frock. Artists Elaine Buckholtz, Floor Vahn, and Christine Wong Yap, have been commissioned to create new works that investigate the various inherent legacies of these locations. Each one provides a relatively unchanged visual benchmark for the architecture of its period, with respective histories that reflect the early radical politics of the Bay Area. Learn more »


Mills College Receives $100,000 College Success Award

May 20, 2010 - Mills College is proud to announce it is the recipient of a $100,000 College Success Award given by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the Walmart Foundation. This award recognizes the College's leadership in educational access, building upon Mills' stature as one of the country's most diverse liberal arts colleges. April 20, 2010 - Mills College is proud to announce that it has turned its most recent green building into gold. The Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business building was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Opened in 2009, the Lokey Graduate School of Business was the second Mills College facility to meet rigorous standards as a LEED facility. Yvonne Rainer, Post-Modern Dance Icon, to Offer Rare Teach-in at Mills College

January 20, 2010 - Yvonne Rainer, the mother of post-modern dance and an iconic figure in the 1960s dance revolution, will lead a rare teach-in at Mills College on Saturday, January 30, 2010. She will teach participants part of her legendary dance, Trio A, a manifesto in movement questioning the aesthetics of traditional dance. The free public event will be held in Haas Pavilion at 11:00 am. Following the teach-in, Rainer will screen several of her films from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the Littlefield Concert Hall and explore the question, "Where’s the Passion?" in a discussion of expressiveness in dance.
