Mills Athletics Director Themy Adachi Named Administrator of the Year

Oakland, CA–August 31, 2011 Athletics Director Themy Adachi will be honored on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the Jostens Administrator of the Year Dinner in recognition of her significant contributions as an administrator of intercollegiate athletics. The event is a highlight of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators, the premier conference for women in intercollegiate athletics.

Adachi has been Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (APER) at Mills College since 2000. In her 17 years at Mills, she has also served as head volleyball coach, recreation coordinator, physical education coordinator, aquatics coordinator and physical education instructor. “Themy is a leader in her sport … and in her community,” said her nominator, Debby DeAngelis. “She is a role model for women’s leadership and is committed to women’s leadership education.”

Adachi also recently received the Northern California Diversity Committee Trailblazer Award from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for “lifelong and groundbreaking service in bringing tennis to, and growing the sport in traditional and non-traditional communities.”
