Oakland, CA–December 06, 2012 Jazz giant Dave Brubeck, who passed away December 5, 2012, enjoyed a long career of musical innovation with early roots at Mills College.
As a graduate student of music at Mills in the 1940s, Brubeck studied under the renowned Darius Milhaud, who encouraged Brubeck’s musical experimentation. Under Milhaud, the late Brubeck served a crucial role as a jazz visionary who is still revered as an important part of Mills’ music history.
